Well folks, it’s that time of the year again, the stormy season is upon us and as we are sure you are aware, lightning is not exactly a computer’s best friend. We want to help you protect your computers and other electronic investments from the inevitable severe spring and summer storms on the horizon.
Before the big ones hit us, there are a some facts that you need know:
The first is that the electric outlet surge protectors you have may not be enough protection in a severe storm. Like the storms we were hit with over the last couple weeks.
Why? Lightning often travels through your telephone lines, cable TV lines and ultimately zap everything in its path.
While you are snug in your bed, thinking you are safe and your systems secure, Mother Nature is robbing you blind leaving a wide trail of destruction.
When lightning strikes in the vicinity of your office and/or home the telephone line(s) and/or cable lines (TV and internet) can allow a harmful surge to pass through them into your network, computers and other sensitive electronics. When the surge travels across the network, your computers and the entire network (including all Network Interface Cards (NIC), firewalls, servers, switches, and workstations,) are at risk.
The second fact you need to know is much of this can be prevented! By acting now and taking a few proactive measures, you can protect your investments from the devastating effects of a power surge, potentially saving yourself and your company thousands of dollars in hardware and service costs. However, without the proper protection in place, a single thunderstorm could cost you and/or your company hundreds to thousands of dollars in an unnecessary disaster.
Coastal Computer Consulting, LLC recommend using APC products to protect your systems. APC makes Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), surge protector, network protection and Cable/DSL/phone line protection products (ProtectNET).
The Engineers at Coastal Computer Consulting have over 40 years of combined experience. We have seen the devastation that occurs when clients suffer the ill effects of lightning strikes. We don’t want this to happen to you or your sensitive electronics!
Our engineers will be more than happy to assist you in evaluating your computer(s), networks, broadband internet connections against surges. In May we will
